MLB Trade Rumors | Connor Byrne: Luke Voit is slowly making his way back to the Yankees’ lineup. Skipper Aaron Boone said that the team could be just two weeks out from seeing the 2020 home run king return from knee surgery. He’ll take batting practice in Scranton next week and could appear in rehab games shortly thereafter. They might be alternate site contests, though the RailRiders’ season gets underway on May 4th in Syracuse, so Triple-A games are in play as well.
The Ringer | Michael Baumann: It’s easy for folks who hate the Yankees to laugh at them while they’re down, but Baumann notes that it’s hard to feel too confident that their struggles will continue. This offense simply has too many talented pure hitters to sit near the bottom of the league for too long. The regression to the mean is coming. It’s just a matter of time.

MLB Trade Rumors | Connor Byrne: The Yankees have agreed to a minor league deal with free agent pitcher Mike Montgomery, adding another lefty Montgomery to the team. The 31-year-old southpaw was with the Royals in 2020, where he threw just 5.1 innings while dealing with a lat injury. He was with the Mets in spring training, but was unable to land a spot on the roster in Queens. The Yankees are hoping he can find his groove on their side of New York.
NJ.com | Mike Rosenstein: We all know Steve Cohen purchased the New York Mets, but Alex Rodriguez was in the conversation as well. He didn’t end up with the team, but he says that he could’ve channeled his inner George Steinbrenner and use him as a model on how to be an owner in MLB. “Well, it’s hard to say anybody could be like George. New York Post | Dan Martin: The Yankees endured a plethora of injuries in 2019 and 2020, and they haven’t stopped in 2021. Kyle Higashioka was slated to play in Tuesday’s game against the Tigers, but he was scratched because of soreness in his side. The Yankees downplayed it, so it doesn’t seem too serious. “We didn’t want to mess with anything too much,” Aaron Boone said. “Just try to avoid an injury situation.” Along with Higgy, relief pitcher Adam Warren has also been shut down with shoulder soreness.
