CO Ryan Brown (Karlstad) reports decent fishing activity in Hallock, with anglers reporting decent-sized walleyes. ATV enforcement was also worked, with various violations encountered. Wolf depredations continue to be a trend throughout the area.
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls West) worked an AIS detail on Upper Red Lake with Lt. Eric Benjamin and CO Sura. He also checked anglers on the Red Lake River. Enforcement action was taken for angling without license, angling with privileges suspended, transporting dressed fillets without a patch of skin, no helmet on a juvenile on an ATV and a walleye overlimit.
CO Tony Elwell (Thief River Falls East) monitored boating, angling and ATV activity in the area this week. Violations encountered included angling without a license, expired watercraft registration, watercraft safety equipment violations and various ATV-related violations.

District 1 – Baudette area
CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked anglers on Lake of the Woods and the Roseau River. Angling success has been fair on both the lake and river. Illegal-length walleyes encountered on Lake of the Woods.
CO Aaron Larson (Baudette) worked primarily angling enforcement on Lake of the Woods. Time was also spent at Zippel Bay State Park enforcing park rules.
CO Ryan Brown (Karlstad) reports fishing on Lake Bronson continues to be slow. Brown presented to a third-grade class in Thief River Falls about Minnesota mammals with CO Woinarowicz.
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls) investigated a wildfire and monitored area angling activity. Enforcement action for the week included burning without the required permit, no helmet on juveniles on ATVs, unregistered ATV, no ATV safety training and an open alcohol container on an ATV on a public roadway.
CO Brice Vollbrecht (Bemidji) reports rescuing four young squirrels that had their tails tangled together outside a youth house in Bemidji. He was able to trap the animals under a box, leaving their tails outside so a piece of cloth could be pulled away from the tails. The animals were all safely returned to the tree where an upset mother was waiting for them.

District 1 – Baudette area
CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked anglers on Lake of the Woods and the Roseau River. A joint detail was worked with the U.S. Coast Guard. A complaint was taken about a possible wolf depredation, and a state trapper was set up to trap in the area north of Badger.
CO Marc Johnson (Warroad) primarily worked angling activity on Lake of the Woods and ATVing enforcement. He also monitored public accesses. In addition, time was spent investigating dredging activity and a partially sunken boat at a local marina.
CO Corey Sura (Baudette) worked angling activity on Upper Red Lake, Lake of the Woods, and the Rainy River. Time was spent investigating a minnow-trapping complaint, assisting volunteers with a local ATV safety class, and participating in a kids fishing event with fifth- and sixth-grade students from Kelliher.
