Osorio/TNS Angeliki Vassilatos, an 18- year-old senior at Whitney Young Magnet High School, is taking a gap year following graduation to work on a farm in Seattle. She ll be attending Gallaudet University, but not until fall 2022. She is deaf, so having to wear masks is an extreme barrier for communication. CHICAGO Angeliki Vassilatos knew she wanted to go to a college with a program for people who are deaf or a significant population of deaf students. Deaf since age 9, the senior at Whitney Young Magnet High School spent her academic years learning alongside hearing peers.
