By Michael Cumella Welcome to a peek inside my collection of flexi discs, phonosheets, cardboard discs, and oddity records, acquired by many years of music collecting and many years of hosting WFMU’s The Antique Phonograph Music Program. These records have a long and mostly undocumented history, spanning the early 1900s through the 1990s. The products of such forgotten manufacturers as Durium, Auravion, Rainbo, Eva-Tone, and American Audiographics, they are made from metal, shellac, celluloid, or flexible materials like plastic or cardboard. The people who made these records would be astounded that we’ve saved them; far from being pop hits, these recordings were meant to have short live

The Fort Hood Spouses’ Club Golf Scramble will be May 7 at the Courses of Clear Creek, 52381 Battalion Ave., Fort Hood. Growing up in Central Texas, we all learned about the Chisolm Trail. I remember spending summers at Camp Tahuaya and seeing the wagon ruts, and some of my best memories are of sitting around a fire cooking, telling stories, and singing with my friends the way the cowboys of old did.

The reason I bring it up is that a fantastic event is coming to Salado that will bring that rich cowboy history and heritage to life, as cowboy poets and musicians gather for a display of the spirit of the American West.
The Salado Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering will take place across several locations in Salado Village May 6 through 9.
