Rescue mission for loggerhead turtle ends on a high
A rescue mission to return a loggerhead turtle named Yosemite to the sea ended on a high today.
SeaWorld and Australian Seabird Rescue workers released her back into the ocean at Fingal Head, about five kilometres south of the New South Wales and Queensland border.
Divers found her three months ago with a hook in her lower jaw, struggling near Cook Island.

The heart-breaking moment a floundering turtle covered in rubbish struggles to dive beneath the surface has been caught on camera.
Trapman Bermagui, a professional fisherman based on the South Coast of New South Wales, stumbled upon the struggling animal on Monday.
The fisherman described the turtle as looking a bit sick after he watched it fail to pull itself down below the surface to dive.

He noticed the turtle had some rubbish attached to one of its flippers which he removed, but said it didn t seem to help the animal.

Along our beautiful coastline, turtle hatchlings are beginning to emerge on local beaches. SCCU and the TurtleWatch team, run by Australian Seabird Rescue have joined forces to run some free 45min information sessions about what to look out for and how to get involved, to help the little guys throughout hatchling season which runs up until May.
There are three sessions with spots limited due to Covid, hosted in SCCU’s Kingscliff Financial Service Centre – be in quick as just by attending you will also go into win a family pass giveaway for 4 people .
