The best England XI to miss out on the Euros - and why they failed to make the cut

It says a lot about the gradual improvement in the quality of English players in the Premier League that a team made up entirely of players who have not made the squad for the European Championships looks strong on paper.
Not as good as the one that will face Croatia in England’s opening group game, obviously, but this is a pretty decent starting XI and shows, after years of falling numbers, that the pool of players available to Gareth Southgate looks more impressive than it has done for years.

Robbie Fowler says that Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City should all have a summer transfer interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
The striker’s form has proved one of the feel-good stories of the Premier League season.
Villa raised eyebrows in September by making him their club-record signing from Brentford for £28million. However, he has answered all those questions with 13 Premier League goals and a first England call-up.
What’s more, he does plenty of work off the ball – something a top modern striker must also do apart from add goals.
The question now is how will they react? After months of struggle and frustration, what can Klopp do to get the ball rolling again at Anfield?
Some of his problems will sort themselves. The return of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, for example, should immediately restore some order in defence, while having supporters back inside Anfield can only help in terms of confidence, focus and intensity.
Do not underestimate the impact empty stands have had on a team which uses our identity is intensity as its motto.
Other issues, though, are less clear cut.
How, or indeed with whom, will Gini Wijnaldum be replaced? Will Klopp adjust tactically, and if so, how? How does Thiago Alcantara fit into the jigsaw? And can the full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, be as devastatingly effective in the future as they have been in the past?
