BRENTWOOD Hampton resident Christopher Wadleigh was sentenced to 8 to 18 years in state prison Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to causing the 2019 crash that killed 20-year-old Ashley Shunk of Dover.
The 29-year-old’s reckless manslaughter plea brings closure to the case, but Shunk’s family says no one connected to it will ever have full closure because of the profound way the crash has shaped all of their lives.
“There really is no winners in any of this,” said Elaine Courtemanche, Shunk’s mother. “Nobody won (Wednesday). There is no good outcome out of any of this, except for to try to, I guess, have the best outcome because we can’t change bringing Ashley back, and just to make the best of it, the situation. That’s how I feel and I think that’s how her friends feel now, too. They’ve had a long struggle.”
