Two Los Angeles-based journalists tried to go waste-free for one week with the Zero-Waste Challenge. They were excited by the challenge, but learned quickly that it was much harder than they imagined.
Sophie Flay realized that she creates a lot of waste. From her daily contact lenses to food, the challenge gave her a new perspective about how small changes can make a big impact on the environment and her wallet.
Ashley Mackey was nervous to begin the challenge and knew she was going to have to make some major changes. She focused on food waste and also tried the Jar Method to store food to preserve it longer. She realized that her food lasted longer and could also save some money in the long run.
