The sport has been taught to 28 children free of cost by coaches D. Sarathy and M. Manikandan at Thiruvanmiyur shelter Fourteen year-old S. Solomon, performs a Uchi Mata (inner thigh reaping throw), a judo technique on 13-year-old D. Vinoth, who lands carefully on a mat.
The two, who are inmates of the Chennai Corporation Shelter for Homeless Children run by Jeeva Jyothi Trust in Thiruvanmiyur, have been practising this olympic sport for the past one month.

The residents of a Greater Chennai Corporation’s Women Shelter in Kilpauk have started making sanitary napkins and are now distributing them to other women shelters in the city. They hope to be able to sell the napkins in the near future at city outlets, and generate an income.

38-year-old woman reunites with family in Puducherry It was a dream-come-true for 38-year-old Kavitha, an inmate of the Shelter For Women With Psycho Social Needs, run by Hope Public Charitable Trust under the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
She was able to sing on the
Mouna Raagam stage on January 17 in front of S.P. Charan.
Subsequently, based on her condition and with the information provided by her, she was reintegrated with her family recently.
“Ms. Kavitha was rescued by the GCC s Shelter for Urban Homeless Cell team members in September 2020. She was disturbed following the death of her husband,” said M. Nandini, project co-ordinator at the NGO.
