Some thoughts on Haiti
Oliver Mills Haiti today dominates the news media. But what many of us are not really aware of is its rich history, and its contribution to our Caribbean heritage.
Gordon Lewis, a former political science professor states in one of his books that after Haiti won its independence, a number of pamphleteers emerged, and there was the potential danger of being reoccupied by France.
Because of this, the first themes in the Haitian literature of the period dealt with the importance for the nation of preparing against this.
