A report from influential think tank the Australian Strategic Policy Institute that criticised government departments for giving too much business to a dominant provider of cloud computing capacity was paid for by a lobbying firm engaged by three of the market leaderâs rivals.
The ASPI report, released in late December, found that one data centre provider had won nearly 80 per cent of lucrative government contracts
. This left government data vulnerable to âsingle points of failureâ and was âa blind and dangerous outcomeâ, the report said.
Government spending on data centres is predicted to rise to $426 million in 2020-21, up 7.4 per cent. Â
