The Fayetteville City Council passed a resolution to change the name of Leroy Pond Drive, one of the busiest roads on the University of Arkansas campus, to Nolan Richardson Drive on Tuesday (March 16).  Leroy Pond Drive sits in front of Bud Walton Arena, the home of the men s and women s Razorback basketball teams.  The University of Arkansas Black Alumni Society has requested that the Fayetteville City Council rename Leroy Pond Drive for Razorback Basketball Coach Nolan Richardson. If passed, a section of Meadow Street between Stadium Drive to Graham Avenue will be renamed Leroy Pond Drive.

SCGA Scholarship awarded in 'B' Lindsey's honor

Elmer Baxter “B” Lindsey is well known as a devoted family man, pillar of the community and an advocate for the cotton industry.  He’s also remembered as an accomplished businessman, a gifted athlete and a farmer.  But the people who knew him best remember him as a good man, a strong Christian who made their lives better by knowing him.

3 appointments to ASU System Board of Trustees announced

Asa Hutchinson has announced three appointments to the Board of Trustees of the Arkansas State University (ASU) System. On Monday, Gov. Hutchinson signed Act 18, officially adding Henderson State University (HSU) in Arkadelphia to the ASU System. Act 18 also expands the system’s board of trustees from five members to seven. Gov. Hutchinson appointed the following members to the ASU System Board of Trustees: • Paul Rowton, Harrisburg, is the executive vice president of GES Inc., a corporation that owns and operates Edwards Food Giant and Edwards Cash Saver Supermarkets. Rowton is the former president of the ASU Alumni Association, where he served on the board of directors for 14 years. Rowton’s term will expire Jan. 14, 2028.

Razorback Legend Loyd Phillips Passes Away

December 27, 2020 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas All-American, Outland Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Loyd Phillips has died at the age of 75. Phillips died on Sunday after complications from a stroke. Phillips, who grew up in Longview Texas, was one of the greatest football players in Razorback history, a consensus two-time All-American for Arkansas from 1964-66. He is one of only two Outland Trophy winners in school history (Bud Brooks), an award annually given to the best interior lineman in college football. “The Razorback Family and college football has lost one of its true legends,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said. “Loyd Phillips was a ferocious competitor for Coach Frank Broyles in what was a truly golden era of Razorback Football.
