Health Care Innovators: Fixing America s Maternal Health Crisis
The U.S. maternal and infant mortality rates have been rising, especially for women and babies of color. In particular, Black women often receive lower quality care during and after childbirth and are more likely to die while giving birth than other women in the U.S. One year into the pandemic, how have social determinants of health contributed to maternal and child health outcomes for Black and other women of color?
On May 25, POLITICO held a deep-dive conversation where Illinois was used as a case study to understand how social determinants of health and COVID-19 have complicated efforts to eliminate maternal and infant mortality. We will also explore the various public health and policy solutions to reduce racial disparities during pregnancy and postpartum.
