Health minister urges Canberrans to roll up their sleeves

ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith A DAY before the ACT government’s third COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic opens at Canberra Airport, Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith is urging Canberrans to roll up their sleeves and take up the opportunity to get a vaccination as soon as possible. The airport clinic at 30 Nomad Drive, Pialligo, will be providing Pfizer vaccinations to eligible Canberrans from 8am to 3.30pm, seven days a week. Canberrans aged 40-59 years can book for a Pfizer appointment at the airport precinct clinic or Garran. Bookings are also open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 39 who is: a health, aged care, disability sector or other critical services worker

New government-run vaccination clinic opens

ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith. CANBERRANS aged 50 and over will start receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine today (May 3) after the opening of a new government-run vaccination centre at Calvary Public Hospital in Bruce. It will herald the next stage in the vaccine rollout, according to Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith, who says as more vaccine clinics open, the broader the access the community will have to the covid jab. The Calvary Public Hospital COVID-19 vaccination clinic will supplement the Commonwealth Government’s AstraZeneca program, being delivered through general practices in the ACT, while the Garran COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic, from now on, will exclusively administer the Pfizer vaccine, which will be given to people aged under 50 who are eligible under phase 1a and 1b of the vaccine rollout, the minister says.

Located in the Canberra Region Cancer Centre, Ward 14B will feature 28 beds – up from the 26 previously provided – as well as a patient/family dining area and therapy gym space. Along with a new design and consultation and treatment facilities, Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith says the redesign will enhance the holistic care provided to oncology patients. The minister opened the ward yesterday, more than two years after the first phase, Ward 14A, was inaugurated.
