The pandemic didnât stop the Rotary Club of Los Altos from focusing on its commitment to community service.
Amid restrictions imposed by the public health crisis, Rotarians continued to provide grants to local nonprofit groups and college scholarships to graduating seniors through the Los Altos Rotary Endowment Fund.
Fundraising through the clubâs Fine Art in the Park open-air art show was impacted by poor weather in 2019 and canceled due to the pandemic in 2020. But this year, with many COVID restrictions in the rearview mirror, Carol Dabb, the Rotary Clubâs artist coordinator, introduced the Los Altos Bears project, aimed at generating funds for Rotary efforts and drawing visitors to the downtown area.
Dr. Wun s work is a reflection of her lifelong commitment to ending racial and gender-based violence. Her areas of expertise include community-driven research, violence against women and girls of color, school discipline and punishment. Dr. Wun is the Director of Transformative Research - a research, program evaluation, and training institute that works in partnership with community-based organizations to end racial and gender disparities.
Dr. Wun s message to the next generation of AAPI leaders: Our communities have been survivors of racial violence, gender-based violence, colonial wars for generations and here in the United States and across its territories. Los Altos Community Foundation recently awarded $177,600 in fall grants to 31 local nonprofits and programs based in – or directly serving – the communities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View.
LACF provides ongoing unrestricted operating or project support to its nonprofit partners through its Community Impact grants program and its 2020 Nonprofit Relief Fund, which funds organizations assisting those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants support programs such as the Community School of Music & Arts’ subsidized, bilingual preschool music and arts program at target Mountain View schools; MVLA Scholars scholarships for first-generation, low-income students; and Ravenswood Family Health Network’s comprehensive health-care services.
