(EAST ORANGE/ORANGE, NJ) - On this last day of Women’s History Month, before the clock strikes 12 midnight, TAPinto wanted to pause from all the Coronavirus news and take the time to highlight women in our communities making a difference.
In honor of the many s-heroes, we have created our second annual “East Orange and Orange 100 Women of Power and Progress” list.
The criteria used to select each woman was as follows: 1. The woman must be a resident of or work in East Orange or Orange. 2. She must use her life and platforms by way of career, volunteerism, social media, etc. to promote positivity, unity, and the uplifting of other women within one of the two municipalities and beyond.

Community members and local organizations are demanding more answers after an investigation into an Orange family’s claims that it has been the victim of bias-based intimidation crimes did not result in any charges.
Earlier this month, Newark LGBTQ Community Center’s Executive Director Beatrice Simpkins penned a letter to Orange Mayor Dwayne D. Warren alleging “biased-based threats” made toward a city resident, Manny “Angel” Ortega, and his family. The Ortega family’s complaints, the letter says, have been repeatedly ignored by law enforcement and city officials.

Seven more mayors across New Jersey are on board to help create a $100 million philanthropic fund to support Black and Latinx business owners and real estate developers.
The idea first started in Newark last year in September. Now, mayors from Orange, East Orange, Paterson, Camden, Trenton, Irvington and Atlantic City are helping to call on the private sector to contribute to the fund and assist their residents too.
