Andy Warhol is synonymous with Pop art and celebrity, Campbell’s Soup and Marilyn Monroe but one driving force in the artist’s work that people may not know about is Warhol’s relationship to Catholicism. A new exhibition illuminating the ways Catholic themes appear in Warhol’s work will travel to the Brooklyn Museum this fall from Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum. “It’s not something I knew about Warhol, or that I think that most folks knew,” Brooklyn Museum curator Carmen Hermo, who organized the upcoming presentation, titled “Andy Warhol: Revelation,” told Artnet News. “I think in some ways, the art world likes to remove the influence of spirituality and religion as drivers of art production and art making in artist’s lives.”

Living Sculpture, Turin, 1966. Courtesy Fondazione Merz. As the daughter of this extraordinary woman, I can’t not mention Marisa Merz, both as an artist and also as a mother. I was guided and inspired by her quiet determination and her energy. Often going against what was rational, she lived by her own rules. These are qualities that, in addition to other things, I consider fundamental to be able to achieve one’s goals. The writing of Belgian philosopher Isabelle Stengers has been really influential in the thinking in my own work. I find her work provocative. It cuts through the illusions of our age to find alternative truths and gives me a sense of purposefulness. I think her concepts and writings are crucial for our time.

WMNF Two Questions About Love Share this: Yes, it’s that time of the year again when Hallmark cards make most of their money for the whole year, red roses are sold for extortionate prices and we all get misty-eyed and serenade beautiful sonnets to each other. OK, I’m exaggerating just a little – yes, it’s the annual Life Elsewhere Valentines Show. We have two questions about love for our distinguished guests. Question number one, “What is love?” And, question number two, “What is your favorite love song?” Seemingly simple questions or are they? Our guests are Benin City. The trio are amazing talents individually, together they make music that is inspiring and joyous. As they say,
