Lesley N Nye Keegan: What a stupid thing for anyone to say, especially on the 25th anniversary of the massacre in Tasmania. The changes made because of that massacre are amply sufficient. We must remember the 35 people killed and the many other injured on that day and not let the likes of Stephen Andrews allow changes that could see it happen again.

The current weapons licensing system is âdemonisingâ licensed firearm owners, Mirani MP Stephen Andrew says.
The One Nation MP has called on the state government to have an âopen mindâ in its approach, citing âmore than 500 active cases in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal involving appeals against the Weapons Licensing Branch of Queensland Police Serviceâ.
In a question on notice in Queensland Parliament to Police Minister Mark Ryan, Mr Andrew said this compared to fewer than 120 cases for the whole of the preceding 11 years.
âWill the minister explain the sudden and truly massive increase in appeals against weapons licensing decisions that has occurred in the last few months?â he asked.

A deeply flawed and mishandled audit of the Queensland Police Service Weapons Licensing Branch is the direct cause of this week’s data breach, the state’s leading pro-shooting organisation says.
More than 1000 gun owners accidentally had their e-mail addresses shared visibly when a police officer sending a mass e-mail to shooters in the Moreton police district forgot to put the details in the “BCC” field.
The incident made national headlines amid concerns the security of thousands of firearms had been compromised by the error.
