President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) instructed Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) to contact Omer Caspi, Israel s representative to Taiwan, to express condolences on behalf of Taiwan s government and people over the tragic incident that took place at Mount Meron in northern Israel, said Presidential Office spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵). At least 45 people were killed and some 150 were injured when thousands of worshipers celebrated the Jewish festivities of Lag Ba Omer on Thursday, local time, according to media reports.

The Taiwanese capital launched contacts between its schools and those in other countries in 2016, with the United States, Japan, and Italy as some of the main partners, CNA reported. The interaction has focused on specific topics, including the environment, animal protection, film, art, and news.
