Taiwan expresses condolences to Israel over deadly stampede

Taipei, April 30 (CNA) The Taiwanese government expressed on Friday its condolences to Israel following a deadly stampede that took place during a religious festival overnight, officials said.
President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) instructed Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) to contact Omer Caspi, Israel s representative to Taiwan, to express condolences on behalf of Taiwan s government and people over the tragic incident that took place at Mount Meron in northern Israel, said Presidential Office spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵).
At least 45 people were killed and some 150 were injured when thousands of worshipers celebrated the Jewish festivities of Lag Ba Omer on Thursday, local time, according to media reports.
