Such a gathering wasnât possible this holiday season, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
But not having âOh Crap, Itâs Christmas!â this year, of all years, âwas too grim to contemplate,â Davis said recently. âItâs been such a miserable year. Everybody has had to compromise so much and to manage their expectations about so much.â
So Davis and Perrine recorded a sequel to the album that originally inspired the show. âOh Crap, Itâs Christmas! Vol. 2: A Family Affairâ lives up to its title with a plethora of guests, including Anders Osborne, Susan Cowsill, Paul Sanchez and Dayna Kurtz, as well as the coupleâs two teenage sons.
Many folks view the approach of the holiday season with equal parts excitement and dread. That dichotomy inspired the cheeky title of âOh Crap, Itâs Christmas!,â the album and annual concert by local singer Debbie Davis and her husband, sousaphonist and bassist Matt Perrine.
But as anyone who has attended one of their concerts knows, she is sincere about her love for the season. The silliness that seeps in should not be mistaken for cynicism.
Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, this yearâs holiday season, emotions are running higher than normal. Which makes it a perfect time to release âOh Crap, Itâs Christmas, Vol. 2: A Family Album,â the coupleâs second seasonal CD.
