There is certain to be significant brain drain from the City of Greater Sudbury following Monday’s announcement that Laurentian University is discontinuing more than 60 programs.
The university has been seeking creditor protection through the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act since February. On Monday, it announced some of the fallout from that proceeding includes shuttering 58 undergraduate programs, including 34 English-language and 24 French-language offerings; as well as 11 graduate programs. A total of 69 programs will be discontinued. The university is maintaining 107 undergraduate and 33 graduate offerings.

Cambrian College is ending 2020 on a high note by earning a spot among Canada’s top 50 research colleges for the ninth year in a row.
The list is compiled every year by Re$earch Infosource, a research and consulting firm specializing in colleges, universities, and hospitals. It ranks colleges by research income generated during the previous year.

For 2019, Cambrian R&D, the college’s Applied Research department, placed 24th overall in Canada for the value of research activity, the second time Cambrian has reached the ranks of the top 25 colleges.
