St Andrews Mardi Gras weekend rolls out in Panama City

PANAMA CITY There hadn t been an interruption in the annual Mardi Gras party in historic St. Andrews since it began more than two decades ago until this year. Last year s event preceded the pandemic lockdowns, and this year s event was postponed from February until later in the year, when more people would (with any luck) have received vaccinations. It s kind of like rescheduling Christmas, said Robbie Fehrenbach with the St. Andrews Waterfront Project, one of the people who helped get the celebration started in St. Andrews back in 1997. But people are ready to have, to celebrate, and we re resilient enough that we re going to do this.

Panama City Florida officials work with artists to paint utility boxes

PANAMA CITY  City officials are improving the area s aesthetics by adding art to unexpected places.  According to Sean DePalma, the city s quality of life director, seven utility boxes in the St. Andrews area were recently decorated with vinyl wraps featuring the artwork from a handful of artists. Those efforts are just the beginning of a project inspired by a nationwide trend. Ten more boxes across downtown Panama City are slated to be decorated this month. The project, part of an Art in Public Places Initiative, cost about $15,000 and was funded by the city s Quality of Life Department.  It improves the quality of life (and is) something that stands out when we have guests, DePalma said. It (also) gives the city an identity that we re culturally sensitive and we truly do appreciate the aspect of art and visual art.

St Andrews in Panama City, florida celebrates Salty Dog Day

PANAMA CITY Every (salty) dog has his day, so they say. Salty Dog Day in St. Andrews will be Saturday, Feb. 27, starting with the weekly Market at St. Andrews along Beck Avenue from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This dog-friendly event will be an extension of The Market with proceeds benefiting Operation Spay Bay. The market will include dog merchandise vendors, veterinarians, a shot clinic, a microchip booth, treat stations, dog play area, food, music, shopping and live entertainment, as well as the Blessing of the Dogs, adoptions, a silent auction and raffles. Salty Dog Day is not confined to The Market at St. Andrews, according to Lisa Barnes-Tapscott, executive director of the Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership. There is fun for dogs and their people throughout dog-friendly Historic St. Andrews on Salty Dog Day. Stroll through Historic St. Andrews and enjoy fresh water, doggie treats and activities for our canine friends.
