If youre hoping to get a conditional use permit (CUP) for tourist lodging in a residential area, youll be waiting for a while.
On Monday night, the Eureka Springs City Council approved a nine-month moratorium on CUP applications for R-2 and R-3 zones.
The council first heard from residents who live in a subdivision where another resident has allegedly been operating illegal tourist lodging. Ferguson Stewart said the neighborhood was quiet when he moved in 2012.
Ive lost my quiet neighborhood, Stewart said. Its now a runway. There shouldnt be any tourist lodging in our area, but we have something going on.

The Eureka Springs City Council addressed the planning commissions new vision plan on Monday night.
The council heard from planning commission chairwoman Ann Tandy-Sallee, who said the commission spent the last year and a half reviewing and updating the vision plan. The vision plan includes possible actions the city can take to solve problems, Tandy-Sallee said, and covers why certain projects havent been completed.
We dont have the money, Tandy-Sallee said. Eureka is very unique. Were not going to be moving streets.
Tandy-Sallee said the commission is working on really shoring up some of the codes.
