Rehoboth Beach City Manager Sharon Lynn recommended canceling the city’s Fourth of July fireworks during a special meeting Tuesday afternoon.
While Lynn did not announce an official decision, she said “it’s going to be virtually impossible to look at the mandates for fireworks (and) gathering in common municipal areas.”
If the city would go forward with a fireworks display, Lynn and other city staff would have to consider the following:
The city is responsible for contact tracing, or keeping track of who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
In the event of a COVID-19 outbreak, the city must publish a press release.
Foam food container ban under consideration in Lane County
The Lane Board of County Commissioners are discussing the possibility of pursuing a countywide ban on polystyrene food containers, otherwise known as Styrofoam.

LANE COUNTY, Ore. The Lane Board of County Commissioners discussed the possibility of pursuing a countywide ban on polystyrene food containers, commonly known as styrofoam, on Tuesday.
The use of the plastic, which is often used as single-use takeout containers at restaurants, has been criticized as a common source of litter that is long-lasting and difficult to recycle. Cities like Eugene, Florence and Portland have already banned food providers from using foam.
Benton County Appoints Van Arsdall as Interim Sheriff

Benton County commissioners voted unanimously (3-0) today to appoint current Baker County Undersheriff Jefri Van Arsdall to fill the position of Interim Benton County Sheriff for the remainder of Sheriff Scott Jackson’s current term.
Van Arsdall’s appointment is contingent on his meeting all the requirements to be Benton County Sheriff, which includes passing an extensive background check. The background check can take up to three weeks to complete. During the interim between Sheriff Jackson’s departure and Van Arsdall’s background check completion, Benton County Undersheriff Greg Ridler will act in-capacity as Benton County Sheriff.
