NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns said that volunteers have been working with local communities to ensure that they have the supplies they need. “These people are resilient and flood-aware. We have been working with them over the past few days to ensure that they have all the supplies that they need,” said Mr Kearns. The NSW SES stands ready to help should heavy rain cause already full rivers and creeks to overflow around the Hunter and Mid North Coast. The northern NSW city of Lismore has been declared a natural disaster area after heavy rain and floods caused an estimated $20 million of damage. Locals were caught off guard when a month s worth of rain fell in just two hours yesterday. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian were briefed by the SES before making the natural disaster declaration today, paving the way for the area to receive emergency funds.
