Frank P. Wilfley, Jr., Published by nathan@mexicole. on Tue, 05/11/2021 - 2:48pm Frank P. Wilfley, Jr., 101, died on Monday, May 10, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico. He was born April 10, 1920, the son of Frank P. Wilfley, Sr., and Willie V. Beagles Wilfley, the fifth generation of Wilfleys in Audrain County. He attended the local schools and a brief time at Central Missouri State. Following Pearl Harbor, he entered the Army of the United States at Jefferson Barracks, and was assigned for basic training at Fort Riley Cavalry Remount Station, Kansas. He was assigned to Headquarters Detachment 1st Cavalry Division, El Paso, Texas; Headquarters Third Army, G4 Section, San Antonio, Texas; and upon activation, Headquarters Sixth Army, G4 Section, serving through four campaigns from Australia and the Philippines. With the surrender of Japan, he received his discharge on Oct. 29, 1945.

Historical Society announces dates for 2021 history camp Published by admin on Mon, 04/05/2021 - 9:00am The 2021 Audrain Historical Society’s history camp will be held from Monday, June 21 through Friday, June 25, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. `Happy 200 Birthday Missouri’ will be this year’s camp theme to celebrate the bicentennial of Missouri and reflect on the great state of Missouri, it’s rich history, resilient and diverse people, and varied landscapes. Campers will actively learn about Missouri through cooking, living history, storytelling, science, arts and crafts, guest educators, reenactments, and recreation. History camp is open to children that have completed the grades 3 through 5. Cost is $50 and is limited to the first 48 registrants. Some scholarships are available.
