Raw sewage pumped into sea at Bulverhythe Beach in Hastings

A BEACH is closed as raw sewage is being pumped into the sea. Southern Water said a large sewer pipe carrying upward of 540 litres per second burst at Bulverhythe Beach in Hastings yesterday. Yesterday afternoon tankers were able to maintain flows and wastewater services while the pipe was turned off for the repairs. However, this morning network storage capacity in the area was reached and the water company took the tough decision to turn it back on. A spokesman for the company said: After careful consideration it was determined this would minimise impact to the environment and beach. We’re working closely with the Environment Agency & Hastings Borough Council.

Hastings  Labour retained control of Hastings Borough Council. However, they were left with a reduced majority because of Conservatives gains. The Tories won eight of the 16 seats contested. The Green Party gained one seat in the Old Hastings wards. Crawley In Crawley, no party has overall control. Labour won a narrow victory in 2019, but no party had overall control going in to the election. This was due to the resignation of one councillor and the death of another. The Conservatives have one more seat than Labour with 18. The Tories say they will begin talks to try and form an administration.

Five blighted structures to be torn down across Cambria County, redevelopment authority says

Renee Daly SUBMITTED PHOTO EBENSBURG – Redevelopment Authority of Cambria County officials on Thursday released the list of the next five blighted structures to be demolished using money from the county’s Act 152 fund. The structures are located at 771 Somerset St., Johnstown; 1237 Main St., Franklin Borough; 219 Gable St., Brownstown Borough; 210 Coleman St., Hastings Borough; and 1229 Deveaux St., West Carroll Township. Each structure is a two-story frame house with a full basement, except for the West Carroll Township property, which has 1 1/2 stories. That house, in unincorporated Elmora, was recently damaged in a fire. The Hastings Borough property has a garage that will also be demolished.
