Malaita Communities Certified in Emergency Response Source: Ernest Taási - Oxfam Share Tuesday, 11 May 2021 07:00 AM The Malaita Provincial Disaster Office successfully certified 25 community leaders in Emergency Response Training (ERT), which will give communities the ability to assist authorities and carry out their own assessments in a disaster response event. Representatives from five communities under the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Disaster READY program with Oxfam in the Pacific attended the three-day long training in Auki last week. This is the first time the province’s disaster office has directly trained community members in ERT, says Malaita Provincial Disaster Officer Pearson Simi.

Duluth Fire Department Gives New Recruits Hands-On Training Session April 16, 2021 DULUTH, Minn.– The next class of Duluth firefighter’s received their final round of training earlier this afternoon. 7 new recruits went through training out of town at Lake Superior College’s Emergency Response Training Center. Some trainees had experience on other departments while others were fresh out of school. They practiced on three structure fires, climbing through windows, and cutting holes in roofs before extinguishing the flames. “Being a firefighter, if you don’t put your hands on the equipment, if you don’t see and feel the heat surrounding you, if you don’t know what you’re getting into it can really surprise you,” said instructor and Duluth firefighter Christopher Norman.
