Assistant Technical Director Nohi Irwan Surkarki bin Haji Pawi presented the insignias; Deputy Station Officer Embran bin Haji Ya’akub was promoted to Station Officer, Senior firefighter Mohamad Azani bin Haji Awang Besar was promoted to Assistant Station Officer, Class One firefighter Haji Mohd Noorlidini Bin Haji Mahlidini and Class One Female firefighter Pengiran Norhayati binti Pengiran Zainal were promoted to senior firefighters. 15 Apr 2021 / 07:50 H. -Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M.Saravanan (pix) today called on all Indian-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country to unite in the interest of future generations. He said NGO leaders should discuss and resolve issues, including those concerning languages and the Hindu religion. “We (Indian community) number about two million in Malaysia. NGOs need to think about unity among the Indian community and to avoid enmity,” he told Bernama after attending the Tamil Puthandu Kondatam event at the Kalamandabam Hall here, yesterday. He was commenting on the issue of several Indian NGOs debating whether the ‘Thai’ month or ‘Chittrai’, according to the Tamil Calendar, should be celebrated as the Tamil New Year. ....

In a celebration organised by the Coalition of Hindu Organisations and Temples, about 300 people observed the special day at the Kala Mandapam Sri Kandaswamy Temple in Brickfields yesterday. They were treated to a spectacle of events such as a traditional drums performance, a demonstration of Silambam, which is a weapon-based Indian martial art that originated from South India, a display of spear fighting and garland-making. ....
KUALA LUMPUR: This year, the Tamil community were able to usher in the Puthandu New Year in a more celebrative atmosphere while adhering to pandemic guidelines. “We are very thankful and happy to be able to celebrate and usher in the Tamil New Year at the temple this year. “Due to the strict movement control order last year, we could only welcome the new year from our homes, ” said Malaysian Hindhudharma Maamandram vice-president Rishi Kumar Vadivelu. He said it was the first time 24 Tamil non-governmental organisations collaborated to organise a celebration at the temple. Rishi Kumar, who was the organising chairman, said the event would help preserve the community’s traditions among the younger generation. ....
