If you re like most people, you spend a lot of time in the winter months (especially during a pandemic) sitting on the couch flipping through the channels trying to find new shows to watch on TV. Recently, my wife and I found a sitcom that we both can agree on that s
loosely tied to the Cedar Valley.
Kyra Sedgwick stars in Call Your Mother on ABC. She plays Jean Raines, a retired Waterloo, Iowa school teacher who decides to be close to her children by moving cross country to Los Angeles, California in order to be with them, much to their chagrin. When she arrives in L.A., to visit her adult son and daughter she becomes the ultimate smothering mother, or a Smother and decides to stay. There have been occasional references about Iowa in each of the few episodes so far. They even showed their version of the Waterloo Airport in the pilot.

As usual, NBC’s “Chicago” crossover trio, which consists of the three dramas “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” and “Chicago PD,” took up the top three slots in Wednesday, Feb. 17’s overnight primetime numbers.
The fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen+Live Same Day indicate that a new episode of the third installment of executive producer Dick Wolf’s franchise, “Chicago Med,” drew a solid 0.9 in the key adults 18-49 demo and approximately 7.38 million viewers at 8 p.m. Brother series “Chicago Fire” was runnerup to the medical drama in the key demo, which ran at 9 p.m. and drew a 0.9 rating and 7.09 million viewers. Closing out the NBC trio at 10 p.m. was a new episode of “Chicago P.D.,” which earned a 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic and 5.72 million viewers.
The trajectory of
the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio is proof that talent – and the God-given aptitude towards funk – will out. A soul-jazz three piece rooted in the earthy sound of the Hammond organ, the group’s 2016 debut album ‘Close But No Cigar’ became a word of mouth success, propelled forwards by their
‘I Told You So’ is the official follow up – though 2018’s ‘Live At KEXP!’ set is also highly recommended – and it finds the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio settling back down into studio life. That said, theres’s a concert-ready freshness dappled across each of these monstrous soul jazz workouts.
