Ramsgate is a town on the move. It has coastal walks, bargain bike hire and good buses, and is 75 minutes from London on a high-speed train. It’s dynamic in other ways too, fizzing with new projects like its Festival of Sound, a crowdfunding drive to turn an old barge into a floating arts centre and the Active Ramsgate initiative, which promotes newly signed walking and cycling routes, kayaking, kitesurfing, geocaching and golf.
At low tide, you can stroll past white cliffs on long sandy beaches for seven miles from Ramsgate to Margate, passing rock pools and cafes and under a chalk cliff arch between Kingsgate and Botany bays.

The trial ran from November 1 until April 30 and covered nine off street car parks in the city. The council said the charges were intended to encourage the turnover of vehicles so that spaces in high demand car parks were available for all car park users when they needed them. But having consulted with blue badge holders and with Spectrum throughout on the impact of the scheme and after reviewing feedback the scheme has now been withdrawn.

Some traders previously called on the council to reopen the road saying the move had turned the busy city neighbourhood into a “zombie apocalypse”. Asked whether the road closure will remain in place, Cllr Fitzhenry said: “No. Our plan will be to reopen Bedford Place. The Carlton Place element that has got approval from the traders will stay but we will consult the traders on both Bedford Place and Carlton Place first. We have their information from the last six months, our plan currently based on that information is to reopen Bedford Place but we will consult those traders first to make sure that that works for them.”
