Courtesy Photo Team members from Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union recently volunteered their time to package food for Feeding Kids Ministries. The program assists elementary, junior high and high school-age students each week throughout the school year. Every Friday, a gallon-size bag of non-perishable food is placed in the student’s backpack to assist less fortunate families with food for their child over the weekend. With the generosity of the community, the program has been able to expand and help families during the summer months as well. Potts listens for a specific sound to tell if a tire is low. ALPENA Schools in Northeast Michigan face many challenges maintaining bus fleets and scheduling new bus purchases. Many local school districts have older buses that often travel hundreds of thousands of miles over the course of a school year, adding wear and tear to the buses and maintenance costs to a district’s budget.

Apr 19, 2021 ∫ The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees approved the purchase of 10 ThinkPad laptop computers in the amount of $20,250 from Lenovo which will be used during TRiO Talent Search summer camps. The purchase was made using TRiO Talent Search funds. During the five-day summer camp, students will learn the fundamentals of game design through the development and planning of game maps, character creation, Java coding, using programming logic and animation, with the end result of creating and publishing a game on the site platform. The college received three bids for the computer purchase, but college officials did not recommend the lowest bid because it did not meet specifications.
