USM AOP Members Earn Awards

Two board members for The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) chapter of the Association of Office Professionals (AOP) earned awards during the spring for academic achievement and outstanding service and support.
Award recipients include the following:
Cindy Walker, administrative specialist for Career Services, received the 2021 Outstanding Business Foundations Graduate Student Award. Walker serves as USM AOP Treasurer.
Joyce Powell, assistant to the director, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development, received the USM Gulf Park Outstanding Staff Award. Powell is 2021-22 AOP Vice President.

April 22, 2021 Brigham Young University Academic Vice President C. Shane Reese announced the appointment of three new deans today, including Richard D. Osguthorpe at the David O. McKay School of Education, Laura Padilla-Walker at the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences and Adam T. Woolley as the dean of Graduate Studies.

Richard Osguthorpe was named the dean of the David O. McKay School of Education.

Osguthorpe has been a professor in the Department of Teacher Education and the Center for the Improvement of Teacher Education and Schooling (CITES) at BYU since 2019. He will begin his tenure as dean on July 1.

Edison State to recognize administrative professionals with free online workshop

PIQUA – Edison State Community College will present a free online workshop on April 21 in recognition of Administrative Professional Day that salutes the many contributions of support staff throughout the area.
The online workshop is open to all office support professionals, including administrative assistants, executive assistants, office managers and other employees who provide secretarial or administrative support for one or multiple supervisors. Supervisors and managers of those administrative professionals are encouraged to attend with their valued employees.
“This is the first year we are honoring administrative professionals through an online format,” said Marva Archibald, assistant professor of business at Edison State. “We have a wonderful keynote speaker this year with whom we feel many participants will relate and some fun and informative breakout sessions planned.”
