The Chancellor and vice-chancellor of the State System of Higher Education will participate in a forum Thursday focused on Pennsylvania’s struggles with funding higher education, particularly at the state-owned institutions.
Conducted by the North Carolina-based Hunt Foundation, the forum will be available virtually. Chancellor Dan Greenstein and Vice Chancellor and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer Denise Pearson will be joined by the state’s deputy secretary for the Office of Postsecondary and Higher Education, Tanya Garcia on Thursday in a discussion moderated by Wil Del Pilar of
Oregon s public universities will see a change in how much funding the state will provide next fiscal year under a new revised distribution model.
The Higher Education Coordinating Commission, which is the state agency that works with and distributes funds for the public universities and colleges, announced its updated funding model Thursday, after more than a year of detailed review.
The commission hopes the changes will improve affordability for low-income students and better support each university s individual mission.
The new model corrects outdated funding practices and allocates more money to universities for certain student groups, such as community college transfers and low-income students.
