SEREMBAN: Police have arrested four suspects, including a woman and a teenager, for alleged involvement in a phone scam and cheating a 57-year-old technician of RM470,000. Negri Sembilan commercial crime investigation department (CCID) chief Supt Aibee Ab Gani said the suspects were arrested in separate raids in Penang on Monday (July 12) and early Tuesday (July 13). The suspects were arrested at three separate locations. Three are from Penang and one from Sabah, he said, adding that the suspects are between 16 and 31 years of age. Supt Aibee also said the police would be applying for their remand later. In the case, the 57-year-old technician from Nilai near here lodged a report on July 9 alleging that he had been cheated of RM470,000 by individuals posing as police and Inland Revenue Board personnel.

Nilai man loses RM470,00 to phony taxmen

SEREMBAN: A 57-year-old technician from Nilai near here has been conned of RM470,000 by scammers posing as Inland Revenue Board officers. Negri Sembilan commercial crime investigation department chief Supt Aibee Ab Ghani said the victim was at work on July 7 when he received a call from a man who identified himself as a tax officer. The caller told the victim he was listed as the joint holder of a company bank account in Alor Star and had tax arrears totalling RM17,600. The victim was also told that the other joint account holder had been detained, he said. Supt Aibee said the victim was then connected to two scammers posing as a policeman and a senior officer from Alor Star.

Six, including three cops, arrested for allegedly stealing safe containing RM400,000

ALOR SETAR: Six suspects, including three policemen have been arrested for allegedly stealing a safe containing about RM400,000 from the office of a logistics company here. Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the six were arrested after the company owner lodged a report over the incident, which occurred at about 1.30am on Wednesday (June 23). He said the six suspects, aged from 21 to 50, were arrested the same day, adding that two more suspects remain at large. The six have been remanded until July 1 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. All raids related to the case were carried out around Alor Setar, said Comm Kamarul Zaman.
