Performances include Translee, Victoria Jones, Brian “Voice Porter” Hawkins, Kristen Glover, Halo Wheeler, Sam Ervin and Spex Da Great. The festival will also feature the Party Rockers with Fly Dave as host. Panel discussion topics include Social Justice in America, IREP: Media Representation and Coverage, Existing: Black Women Segment, and Healthcare, Accessibility and Disparities. The Birmingham Times 1871  –City of Birmingham founded; now the state’s most populous city, Birmingham was founded at the crossing of two rail lines near one of the world’s richest deposits of minerals. 1873 Birmingham becomes seat of Jefferson County. –First Colored Baptist Church founded. Birmingham particularly hard hit by cholera due to the lack of urban infrastructure and the poor housing conditions. At least 128 people died from cholera, which struck in the height of summer and persisted for several weeks. Design team chosen for Africatown Welcome Center, city says Updated May 07, 2021; Posted May 07, 2021 The Africatown Welcome Center is pictured on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, in Mobile, Ala. At the time, the welcome center was housed in a mobile home across from the Old Plateau Cemetery. The new center will be located in the same spot, but it will be much larger (approximately 18,000 square feet) and serve as a tourist attraction. That project is being funded by RESTORE Act money.
