The life of Audie Murphy, the Hunt County native who went on to become the most decorated American soldier of World War II will featured next week during the 25th annual Audie Murphy Day celebration.
Both Murphyâs distinguished military career and his days as a Hollywood movie star will be featured.
After last yearâs program was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Audie Murphy Day will be held on Saturday, May 22 and will feature several speakers.
Event Description
This annual event celebrates the life of Audie Murphy, most decorated combat soldier of WWII, as well as military veterans and those currently serving our country. Some of our featured speakers will include Marjorie Lewis who wrote the book When the Men Were Gone , actor Michael Dante who was in Apache Rifles and Arizona Raiders with Audie and historian Michael West.
In addition, to celebrate the 25th year of Audie Day the bestselling movie To Hell & Back starring Audie Murphy will be shown at 2pm and 7pm at the Texan Theater on Friday, May 21st. Reservations for the movie are required by calling the museum.
The 25th anniversary Audie Murphy Day celebration is scheduled May 22.

Susan Lanning, director of the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, spoke with the Hunt County Commissioners Court Tuesday about plans for this yearâs event, after last yearâs program was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lanning said the 2021 Audie Murphy Day will be held on May 22 and will feature several speakers.
âWe have Michael Dante, who was an actor in a couple of Audieâs movies, who will be here as well as Marjorie Lewis, who was the author of âWhen The Men Were Goneâ who will be speaking as well,â Lanning said, adding there is a lot of anticipation for the landmark celebration.
