Pakistan s prime minister Imran Khan will take a vote of confidence from parliament on Saturday following a setback in Senate elections.
Khan will most likely win the vote of confidence today, with 179 seats in the National Assembly belonging to members of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, and 177 members reposing their trust in his leadership ahead of the vote.

Only a couple of MNAs could not attend a meeting with Imran Khan as they were on their way to Islamabad, said Shibli Faraz, Pakistan s Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator, talking to the media after the meeting of parliamentary parties of PTI and allies at the Parliament House.

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday won a trust vote in the national assembly amid a boycott call by the opposition parties, strengthening his government’s legitimacy after an embarrassing defeat of the finance minister in the hotly-contested senate elections.
Prime Minister Khan secured 178 votes in the 342-member lower house of parliament during a special session convened on the directives of President Arif Alvi. A total of 172 votes was needed for a simple majority.

In a show of strength, Prime Minister Imran Khan secured 178 votes – six more than required – on Saturday to win the vote of confidence from the National Assembly.
The special session was called after the premier voluntarily sought a trust vote following an upset in Senate elections. Addressing the assembly after his win in a wide-ranging speech, the premier said no one can stop Pakistan s progress .
He also announced electoral reforms, saying: We are doing things; we are fully engaged with overseas Pakistanis so they can cast votes, and secondly, we are bringing electronic machines.
