On 2 June, Buckingham Palace released details of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations next year, centred on an extended bank holiday weekend of festivities in the summer. Princess Elizabeth was just 25 when she acceded to the throne, on 6 February 1952. Royal Communications announced that her 70 years of service will be marked with ‘year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world as communities and people come together to celebrate The Queen’s historic reign.’
