Earth Day Weekend events encourage outdoor fun

This weekend s roundup of Maury County events is all about getting outdoors and enjoying a little Mother Nature, as well as lots of entertainment and fun.
1. Earth Day events
Earth Day is all about getting out and being in nature, which can be both fun and educational for all ages.
Columbia Parks & Recreation will host Eco Engagement at Riverwalk Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Bring the kids out for a fun day full of crafts, demonstrations, nature walks and other activities.
Spring Hill Parks & Recreation will host an event for young archeologists and those who like to get their hands dirty. Its Can You Dig It? event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Evans Park and will feature lots of hands-on art and other activities, such as sifting through sand to find fossils, geodes and arrowheads. Other activities will include exploring the swamp to look for lizards, frogs and other watery critters.

The outpouring response following Mule Day s official cancellation earlier this month brought many supporters together over the weekend to discuss a possible revival of Columbia s largest event in May.
The grassroots effort was spearheaded by Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles, who initially called the decision to cancel Mule Day for the second year in a row, absurd. Ogles was joined by several local business owners, nonprofit groups and citizens who wished the events could somehow continue.
Ogles pointed to two major gathering events the city has hosted in the past, the 9/11 Memorial concert on the square last September and the Maury County Fair. He said, according to data, there was no spike in COVID-19 case numbers reported after those events, and the same can be true for Mule Day. If anything, the city is more prepared now than it was in 2020 with access to vaccinations and antibody treatments, he explained.
Anyone taking a drive up to Nashville can also enjoy the Food Truck Feast in East Nashville, which UNATION ranked as one of Music City s Top 5 Stuff to Do events. The event, which begins at 3:15 p.m. Friday at 400 Davidson St., will feature live music, beer, a skyline view and shopping with local vendors at the indoor market on-site.
5. Live entertainment
Live music and entertainment is always a weekend staple, this week features a diverse lineup of country, pop and even some live poetry.
