Chauvin guilty of murder: Ex-cop convicted in George Floyd death

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo calls for peace, healing Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo expressed hope for the city in a post-verdict statement Tuesday night while asking for “calm, safety and peace in our communities.” Arradondo, who took the stand at the opening of the second week of witness testimony, telling the jury that Chauvin “absolutely” violated department policy by using his knee on Floyd’s neck, also thanked jurors and expressed his “respect” for the verdict. Now, he said, is a time for healing. “We recognize that our community is hurting, and hearts are heavy with many emotions,” Arradondo said in his statement. “However, I have hope. The community that I was born and raised in and that we serve is resilient and, together, we can find our moment to begin to heal.”

41-year-old sends powerful message with law school graduation photo

May 24, 2021 Amber Goodwin (ST.PAUL, Minn.) When Amber Goodwin graduates from law school next month, she will be fulfilling a lifelong dream, and doing so at the age of 41. Goodwin, of Texas, will graduate from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, in St. Paul, Minn., on June 6, nearly two decades after she said she graduated college and was not accepted into any law schools. After she got rejected from her schools of choice, Goodwin earned a master’s degree and carved out a career on Capitol Hill. She also founded the Community Justice Action Fund (CJAF), a gun violence prevention program focused on communities of color, before deciding to give law school another try in her late 30s.
