Police say 27-year-old Deonta Williams told officers it stemmed from a road rage incident while he was merging onto U.S. Highway 75 southbound from Ames Avenue late Wednesday afternoon.
He says he was struck by gunfire that came from an SUV;
Williams pulled over on eastbound I-480 near 24th Street and was taken to a hospital to be treated for what turned out to be non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.

MERIDEN, Conn. Police say five officers were injured after a car rammed into two cruisers in Meriden Monday night.
Officers found a Red Chevy Impala on North Second Street, that matched the description of a car used in a shooting.
Police say as officers approached the car, the suspects drove it toward two cruisers and an undercover car. The officers on foot were struck by the car as it twice rammed all three cars.
Officers who approached the vehicle on foot were hit as the car proceeded to ram both cruisers and the unmarked car a second time, according to police.
The car was able to create enough space to drive over the sidewalk and escape the scene, heading west on West Main Street. Officers were able to locate the car in the area of Ames Avenue and Lockwood Street, officials said. The people inside the car fled and officers were able to apprehend them after a brief foot pursuit, they said. Officers saw one man get rid of a weapon, which was later found by a department K-9. Another weapon was also located, police said.
