MSA cast members in Sleeping Beauty rehearsals (Glenn Cook)
Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria, Virginia will perform a virtual, Sleeping Beauty, online from May 8, 12 AM to May 9 at midnight. MSA pre-recorded its Sleeping Beauty performance at the George Washington Masonic Temple in Alexandria, Virginia. There are three shows, each with a different cast. Sleeping Beauty is brought to life by the Metropolitan School of the Arts Youth Ballet, with film direction by Enoch Chan Productions, cinematography by Austin Reeves, direction by MSA faculty member, Kirsten Noetzel and MSA youth ballet director, Jacqueline Doherty.
On March 9, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed a bill creating the Appalachian Regional Commission, known as the ARC. The agency’s goal was to bring impoverished areas of Appalachia into the mainstream American economy. Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) announced Aviara Padgett (grade 4) and Jackson Dominski (grade 6), both of Alexandria, Va., as its inaugural winners of its Metropolitan Anti-Bias Committee s (MABAC) Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Project Activity. The project was open to all MSA students to submit and enter a raffle for a $100 gift card. Metropolitan School of the Arts is going forward with a COVID-19 style, Nutcracker ballet performed at the George Washington Masonic Memorial Temple in Alexandria, Va., to debut as a virtual, pre-recorded video to stream on Sat., Dec. 26 at 12 PM, 3 PM and 6 PM; and Sun., Dec. 27, at 11 AM, 2 PM and 5 PM on Metropolitan School of the Arts private YouTube channel (YouTube link will be emailed one hour before performance time). Tickets are per household with ticket prices ranging from $40 to $80, while early bird pricing is available before Dec. 15.
