Pella High Athletes Celebrate College Signings Wednesday

A second round of Pella High School Athletes has signed on to compete at the next level. Six additional members of the Class of 2021 celebrated moving on to college at a ceremony held at Pella High School Wednesday afternoon. The following individuals were recognized (name above photo): Kody Huisman, North Dakota State Football Tune into the Wednesday, May 13th and Thursday, May 14th editions of the KNIA/KRLS Radio Sports Page to hear full interviews from the athletes who participated in this week’s Pella High School signing day celebration (Huisman was instead featured on this week’s shows for his Drake Relays Shot Put Championship).

Area Athletes Take Home Hardware At 54th Panther Relays

Four area schools competed at the 54th Running of the Panthers Relays last night at Randy Wilson Track in Knoxville. Team scores were unavailable but several athletes and relay teams were able to post wins. The Pella girls were able to pick up five gold medals including Calla Kerndt in the 200 and Abby Cutler in the 3000 along with relay events including the 4×100, 4×200, and the 800 sprint medley. The Pella boys brought their junior varsity and came away with a 2nd place from Luke Fairchild in the 110 high hurdles. The Knoxville boys had six 1st place finishes including Kieren Nichols in the 400, Kaden McGill in the 800, Seth Walraven in the 1600, T.J. DeJong in the long jump, and Tyler Peterson in the shot put, plus the 800 sprint medley relay. The Panthers girls did not have any 1st place finishes but Ashlyn Finarty in the shot put and Ciara Heffron in the discus both took third place, respectively.
