Steve Metzger of Elida has restored this 1967 Schwinn carrier bike that was similar to the one he used to deliver newspapers as a youth. He’s even made saddle bags for it and vows to one day ride it around the community.
I’m sure of it.
No doubt in mind.
There’s ink in the blood of Al Meinerding, Eldon Miller, Margaret Finkenbine, Theresa Schnipke and countless others whose first job, way back when, was delivering newspapers.
Putting that paper in the hands of their customers is as special to them today as it was during their childhood.

Victim named in fatal shooting on Scott Road Monday, April 19, 2021 1:31 PM
VAN WERT COUNT – On Monday, Van Wert County Sheriff Tom Riggenbach
released the name of the juvenile killed in last Tuesday s shooting on
Scott Road in Van Wert County. Seventeen-year-old Zy’Keera Townsend of
Lima, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. Townsend was a student at
Apollo Career Center.
According to information released by the
Sheriff s Office, deputies received a 9-1-1 call at 9:59 a.m. on
Tuesday, April 13, 2020, about someone being shot at 1339 Scott Road in
Union Township.

Schoonover Observatory reopens

LIMA The Lima Astronomical Society opened its Schoonover Observatory over the weekend for an open house and discussion on the Dark Skies Initiative.
“It’s been over a year,” said Michael Ritchie, Lima Astronomical Society president. “It’s (the closure has) really done a lot of harm to the observatory. I had to come out and re-clean everything, but we’re finally back open.”
Ritchie says they are limited in what they can do because repairs are needed.
Anti-solar group sounds off

Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman of Lima told those at Apollo Career Center Saturday that is “is my goal to make sure the (Birch Soldar) project doesn’t go forward”.
Ohio House Speaker Bob Cupp of Lima listened to concerns about the Birch Solar project at a meeting Saturday at Apollo Career Center.
Preble County Commissioner Rachael Vonderhaar discusses the problems they’ve had with green energy in that county, while Julie Johnson of Champaign County looks on. Vonderhaar said, “It is actually harder to build a house in Preble County than it apparently is a solar generating facility with OPSB (Ohio Power Siting Board), stepping on the plans we’ve written for our community,”
