Aliko Dangote Dangote Industries Ltd has expressed optimism that its cement expansion plan and fertiliser investments will open new trade routes for the company and Nigeria under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) that kicked off on January 1. Already, the cement company, despite an installed capacity of 29.3Mta in Nigeria, is targeting an expanded entity in-country and in Cameroon, while new plants will soon be ready for inauguration in Niger, Benin, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Togo. The conglomerate, in a statement at the weekend, quoted the President/Chief Executive, Dangote Industries Ltd, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, as saying that Africa needs to deliberately improve its per capita consumption of cement in order to aid infrastructural development by stimulating further demand and forcing down the cost of the commodity.

Kidnappers abduct 20, kill one, as police foil robbery in Nasarawa On By David Odama One person was reportedly killed, yesterday,  with over 20 others abducted by gunmen along Mungi-Buga in Gwari-Gadabuke village, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The 20 kidnapped victims were said to be travelling in  three vehicles while the former Education Secretary with Nasarawa local council, Mallam  Salihu was killed at the scene of the incident while travelling to Toto from Nasarawa. Gadabuke Emirate Council Secretary, Abdullahi Baba, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen in their numbers came out from the bush to attack the vehicles plying the road where they abducted passengers in three commercial vehicles.
