Baystate Health awards $1.2M in Better Together grants to 16 nonprofits, town of Blandford

SPRINGFIELD Sixteen community-based nonprofits, as well as the town of Blandford, have been awarded $1.2 million in Better Together grants by Baystate Health as part of its Community Benefits Program to help urban and rural populations in communities it serves.
The money awarded over a period of up to three years is from Baystate’s Community Health Initiative funding approved by the state and originally based on determination of needs at Baystate Medical Center in 2018. One of the many ways of improving health care outcomes is to address health inequities.
According to the American Medical Association, “marginalized and minoritized patients have and will suffer disproportionately during the COVID-19 crisis due to the inequities in society perpetuated by systemic practices.”
As the large first surge of the coronavirus in Greater Springfield was just beginning to ease in April and the inequitable impact on vulnerable groups had become clear, a work group gathered virtually to address the impact.
Comprised of leaders, experts and stakeholders from Baystate Health, Caring Health Center and the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts, the work group quickly determined their key activities would be:

HOLYOKE Business coach and strategist Lynn Turner of Clear Alliance Inc. and Moe Belliveau, executive director of the Easthampton Chamber of Commerce, will give a presentation titled “Maintaining Power and Grace While Glass Ceilings Are Being Shattered” as the Holyoke Community College (HCC) Spring Women’s Leadership Luncheon Series continues on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
The luncheon series takes place over Zoom on the last Wednesdays of January, February, March, April, and May from noon to 1:15 p.m.
Each month, participants join a group of women leaders to discuss current issues and ideas to help their leadership development. They will also have the opportunity to form a supportive network of women leaders to help navigate their careers.
