Top musicians from Central New York s Symphoria Orchestra will wrap SUNY Oswego’s Ke-nekt’ Chamber Music Series with a free, live virtual concert by the Salt City String Quartet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28.
Consisting of violinists Peter Rovit and (pictured) Sonya Williams, violist Arvilla Wendland and cellist Heidi Hoffman, the quartet will begin the program with Antonin Dvořák’s String Quartet in F Major, Op. 96 “American.” Trevor Jorgensen, chair and associate professor of Oswego’s music department, will join them for Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Quintet in Bb Major, Op. 34.

Yo-Yo Ma, arguably the most celebrated living performer of Western classical music, received his second coronavirus jab at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on Friday. While waiting the fifteen minutes post-injection (as patients are requested to do, just in case of a rare allergic reactions) he did what any one of us would do if we could play the cello like Yo-Yo Ma. He played the cello.

This concert features two iconic, yet rarely performed works of the great Czech composer Antonin Dvořák. Serenade for Winds is a masterpiece inspired by the folk music of his homeland and will showcase the celebrated talents of the CSO’s wind section. The program concludes with his Serenade for Strings, captivating in its melodic beauty, optimism, and virtuosic sparkle.

The Columbus Symphony today announced the remaining concerts of its 2020-21 Masterworks season. All concerts will be held at the Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.) and performed by a full, socially distanced orchestra.
