Armbruester and Castillo Named All-MW First Team; Armbruester Named Pitcher of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Mountain West released its annual post-season awards on Thursday, and a pair of standouts on the University of New Mexico baseball team received recognition for their performances during the 2021 baseball season. Outfielder Kyler Castillo and right-handed pitcher Justin Armbruester both earned All-Mountain West First Team Honors. Armbruester also earned the Mountain West Pitcher of the Year Award, serving as the first Lobo since 2006 to win MW Pitcher of the Year. The last Lobo to earn the award was Danny Ray Herrera, who shared the honors with TCU’s Jake Arrieta.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Gwen Maly and Jadyn Edwards of The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team have earned 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s All-Pacific honors after a historic season by the Lobos. Maly was named to the All-Pacific First Team, and Edwards was named to the All-Pacific Second Team.
“I am thrilled for Gwen and Jadyn to be recognized,” said head coach Heather Dyche. “They are players who consistently put the team first and help those around them to be better on and off the field.”
Maly is just the second Lobo in program history to earn All-Pacific First Team honors, and the first since 2010. Maly finished the season with nine goals, three assists and averaged 1.62 points per game. The redshirt-senior started in every match this season and is tied for ninth in program history for goals in a season (9) and game-winning goals (4).
