Ayodhya shrouded in silence on Ram Navami, Saryu banks barricaded, borders sealed | India News

AYODHYA: Amidst the lethal run of the Covid second wave, Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya was shut on Ram Navami day and the temple town remained under virtual curfew with all major shrines, including Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan and Dashrath Mahal closed for pilgrims. With borders sealed for devotees, including Kumbh seers returning from Haridwar, even Ram ki Paidi on the Saryu banks was deserted with all entry points to the ghats barricaded. Barring a fleeting glimpse of stray monkeys and cops at checkpoints, silence shrouded Ayodhya, a town which would be agog with Vedic chants and hymns on Lord Ram’s birthday.

Ayodhya set to see muted Ram Navami celebrations SECTIONS Last Updated: Apr 21, 2021, 12:22 AM IST Share Synopsis Major temples such as the Hanuman Garhi temple and Kanak Bhawan will remain shut for devotees while the Ram Janmabhoomi premises will also be closed, with only resident priests conducting puja inside. An appeal to devotees to this effect has also been made by the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the temple trust, to celebrate the festival from their homes. Ram Navami celebrations in Ayodhya will remain muted this year, as all major temples have closed their doors to the general public for the festival while the district administration has put curbs to deter people from flocking to the holy city on the occasion.
